Gender Flip Project
For my gender flip ad project, I used a Corduroy advertisement. It features a man with broad shoulders in a suit holding some sort of record (not sure). The ad reads: “For readers of Playboy” and talks about the company’s clothing in more detail. I chose this ad because it was already a drawing, rather than a real photo of a person so it was easier to replicate. I switched genders of the man (in both positions) and changed the wording to “For readers of Playgirl”. I did not see any reason to color my project, as the original ad had just one color on the whole ad (printing reasons I’m assuming). I also changed the gender of the face on the record(?). I did not re create the details about their clothing because I would have been just rewriting what they already had. There was no gender flip significance there. I chose this project because I like drawing. That’s it pretty much.

Truman Show
Josh Bair
Topic Five
Truman is feeling anxious as he walks into darkness, repeating over and over in his brain the events that just occurred. He gets used to the dark, but is only able to see fragments of shapes that he isn’t exactly sure what they are. The shape of a sphere is in his hand, and Truman realises that he is holding a door knob.
“This is it,” he says as he closes his eyes and takes a long breath to calm himself. He turns the doorknob.
Light that he hasn’t experienced before bursts into his eyes, his entire vision is blinded in white for the longest Truman has ever felt pain. He falls to the ground, screaming in agony. His vision begins to fade slowly into his regular sight... but everything seems to be faded and distant. Truman looks around in what seems to be a street with cars. He is hesitant to believe that it is actually the real world, so he tries to be friendly so a woman passing by.
“Hello! How are you?” Truman asks, with a big smile on his face.
She looks at him with the widest green eyes Truman has ever seen. She begins to scream, which scares Truman.
“OHH MY GOD IT’S TRUMAN!!”
“Um… what?”
“I LOVE YOU! I WATCH YOU EVERYDAY I GET OFF OF WORK!!!”
Truman forces a smile to be nice and gets away from her in the quickest way he can think of. “I have to go and talk to my boss, have a nice day!”
Truman is free from her, and he stops to see people all over the street stopping pointing at him. They begin to walk towards him slowly. Truman is scared. Are they zombies?
“Truman, is that you?!??”
“Hey, why aren’t you in the dome? Did they lie to us?”
Truman ignores these remarks and just keeps moving, but that doesn’t stop the crowd. He begins to run. More and more voices and shadows crowd around him, keeping up with his pace at the perfect speed. He closes his eyes.
“I want to see Lauren,” Truman whispers, “where is the airport?”
One of the shadows blurts it out, so he heads in that direction.
Truman runs towards the airport, ready to board a flight to Fiji and hopefully survive the lighting storm on the plane. But he doesn’t care this time. Truman introspects himself and calms his mind. He is prepared, as he is followed by hundreds of people who live by his philosophies.
This scene furthers on the Christian symbolism, implying that Christof would be the “God” and Truman is Jesus. Truman has many followers who already live by his ways, and they would do anything with him, including follow him to Fiji. My scene shows how dedicated people are to Truman, more so than their own lives. They would spend their whole life dedicated to something else, rather than live their own life (the Bible). Truman’s personality is the perfect leader. He strives to be something more, and takes action instead of waiting for it to happen. He is extremely friendly to everyone, and that makes people like him more. He immediately greets a woman passing by knowing if he has never met her in his life.
