These are projects that we are assigned once every quarter to make out of passion, something we love doing. Here are my passion projects.
of Montreal - Spike the Senses Animation
For this quarter, I decided to make another animation for a song, but this time use different techniques than I did the last time I made a music video. Such as centering on a main character. Have the setting around him change throughout. My intention was to create the feeling of the song. I was also heavily inspired by The Beatles Nowhere Man music video from "The Yellow Submarine" movie. Animation is a really long process so I was only able to complete half of the song. Here is half of the music video for "Spike the Senses"!
The Fantastic Tale of a Guy and His Dinosaur Costume
I've wanted to experiment with puppets for a while now. An idea for a script popped into my head one time in class, and I knew I had to make it. This idea showed a person who wears a dinosaur costume everywhere and never seems to fit in. I began to develop a plot to this story. Here are two sections from the script itself:
I had plans to make the puppets, but only sent the sketches for the main character "Guy In Dinosaur Costume". Also the person helping me with this was very busy, so I only had time to make the one puppet. This made me have the idea to make a trailer (as I am still going to make the short film) for this. Here are the photos in the making of the puppet.
Here is the test video I made after finishing the puppet.
Here is the final teaser-trailer for The Fantastic Tale of a Guy and His Dinosaur Costume:
PP#2 Pink Floyd Breathe Animation
I started this project well over a year ago, only completing a small portion of it (for fun). I suddenly became very lazy and stopped working on this animation until I transformed it into my passion project. Overall, the animation itself maybe took about 2 weeks to do. I animated it in a very abstract style, trying to make it trippy and capture the feelings that the song gives off for me. The only two scenes that aren't entirely "original" is the triangle, which I took inspiration from the label on my Dark Side of the Moon record. And the scene at the end with the rainbow colors comes from the inside of the sleeve from the record also.
